Ash falls on Tokyo as volcanoes erupt
AFP - Monday, February 2TOKYO (AFP) - - Two volcanoes erupted near major cities in Japan on Monday, with one spewing white smoke and ash into the heart of Tokyo, the weather agency said.

Authorities advised residents to wear masks in the towns near Mount Asama, some 150 kilometres (95 miles) northwest of Tokyo, which belched lava shortly before 2:00 am.

The 2,568-metre (8,425-foot) volcano last erupted in August last year. Live television footage showed smoke coming from the snow-covered mountain hours after the eruption.

Carried by winds, volcanic ash fell like snow flakes on towns at the foot of the mountain. Traces of ash were even reported in central Tokyo and all the way in the metropolis of Yokohama southeast of the capital.

"I've been a taxi driver in Yokohama for 10 years but I've never seen this kind of volcanic ash before," the driver said on television as he wiped a thin blanket of ash off his windshield.

"I heard a rumbling and my windowpanes kept rattling," said a female resident of one of the towns near the volcano where local officials urged inhabitants to wear masks.

The weather agency warned of a possible fall of rocks within four kilometres of the crater.

Meanwhile, 1,117-metre (3,686-foot) Mount Sakurajima next to the southern city of Kagoshima erupted eight times, the meteorological agency said, warning of falling ash.

But local inhabitants and city officials said daily activity was little affected by the eruptions which occurred from Sunday evening until early Monday, the agency said.

"Most of the ash has fallen into the sea, and we did not note anything out of the ordinary affecting daily activity," said Hiroyuki Ikenoue, a local official.

Japan lies at the convergence of four tectonic plates, subjecting the nation to frequent volcano eruptions and 20 percent of the world's powerful earthquakes.

3rd Jan, The perfect breakfast

Nothing beats waking up early.
And having bagel and coffee at Thompson's Starbucks.

A stress-free break from this hectic life.

But people should really understand how the love of roaring engines came about.

I can just see myself into the crystal ball, how hetic my lifes going to be in these coming weeks
with so many stuffs thats going on.
My all so close TP, which i so hope to pass so i can start having late night prata suppers and can stop ever having to worry about going to town with my heavy school bag.
Polympics 08, i gotta win, theres no alternative to that. I have to.
Dragonboat Singapore River Regetta, which honestly, im pretty glad to be able to row cause we all know other than gyming, i haven exactly been rowing much due to Muay thai, flying here and there etc. But i still have losta fun with the sprinters despite not seeing them for over a month plus and thats why i love the team =)

Halloween was pretty screwed up, with due to the bad undance-able music throughout the night, dint consume any alcohol before we headed in and nobody else dressed up cept for me and daph. And the rest of the ppl on the dance floor that dressed up were losers. So rather would have gone to zouk. Im praying ill be able to book out on halloween nxt year so ill be able to enjoy the festives of halloween like everyone else and not hunt real ghosts while doing some guard duty or something. Even got my eyes set on what i wanna wear next year. Talk about planning before hand. But the stayover at alexs turned out to be the key of the night as jh and i played with his pullup bar, got the shit scared outta us by his sister, sharing a single sized bed with lawr and the early morning waking up for nothing. Ah.. i love hanging out with the team.

Modelling can be a pretty tiring job.

Flew business during my last trip to viet.
I dun get to fly business often unless dads around cause im a poor boy :(
The flight itself was nth spectcular cept for the fact u get better service and more smiles,
bloody realistic world.
Totally enjoyed the lounge experience yet again thou.
Loved that massage chair, that freeflow of hagen diaz, that endless good food.

All in all it was a good experience.
And things like this make u want to strive harder to be sucessful in the future.

Trainings been good these days.
Fitness getting better and strength increasing with each passing day.
Im totally loving the personal trainings as of late, and zachs occasional presence at the gym makes me wanna push myself more and hit that much harder on the bags in hope to impress.

Canoeing wise,
I hate the fact that collins going to the army,
Why must it be collin, why cant it be chinkoon or something =(
Thinking back at the time we poke a stick thru some grass hoping it would fly still makes me smile at myself like some 6yr old getting candy.
Ive never seen him angry at anyone before nor has he ever been angry at.
I respected Collin the way the jnrs do when he corrected and spent time teaching strokes to every single one of them.
At the end of the day, im glad hes good at wat he does, cause he certainly deserves it.

I watched three kingdoms recently.
Not a bad movie, always loved the sword fighting age movies rather than the guns and shit.

Have always loved such movies. :)
I seldom do movie reviews, but today im going to do one on this, just cause, yes, im a geek whn it comes to The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It was more or less much of my childhood story growing up. So i do believe the public(you all) should know a tat more than wats protrayed in the Movies. do ignore if this does not interest u.

1st: The real five great generals are:
i) Guan Yu
ii) Zhang Fei
iii) Ma Cao
iv) Huang Zhong
v) Zhao YUN (not some zhao ziling, and yes zhao yun was the one that saved liu bei's son, which is also true that liu bei's son wasnt cut out to lead and often spent his time with the palace girls)

2nd: Cao cao dint have a daughter, he had a son, his name was
Cao Ping and not Cao Ying(Maggie Q)

3rd: Guanyu's adopted son was called "Guan Ping" and not that vanness wu, whatever he calld himself in the movie.

4th: The "green dragon", "white tiger" pouch thingy is true. but the contents isnt wasnt. Guan ping was executed with guan yu after his lost to cao ping.

5th: Guan Yu was probly the best fighter among all 5 of them, and i really think he could have taken out zhao zilong blah blah. And thrs Lu Bu, but tats another story, so dun bother.

6th and the list goes on.........

I feel geekish just typing this.
But im so into three kingdoms, i can pratically tell u the whole story if u have hours to spare :)
Its something like if someone told "three little pigs" story as a tiger instead of a wolf, if that even makes sense.
I feel its my DUTY educate the public :D

"If only" is a nice show, and i reckon everyone should just rent a dvd and watch it from start to end. A sad story with a touch of PS ilu but yet not quite similar. Reminds us how we should learn to cherish the people around the people that you care about.
Yet at the same time, potraying the cruel reality of how within us, we all know how to treat our other half right, the way he/she should be treated, yet how such things could and would only be done if it was only for a day, and hw time blands the actions that we knew/would/could yet not actually doing it. (if this whole paragraph even makes sense, if it doesnt, rent the dvd n watch)

Nice show got a 4/5 from me.

But im glad i won my first K1 medal.
6th after 14km, and proud of it.

shorter distance=FASTER PACE

2nd in 3 months,
3rd outta 4 marathons.
But still lots to improve on as i learnt from this race.
Strokes, stamina, pace, fitness, mind.
cause 6th just isnt spectacular.

and i will train everyday if thats what it takes to get selected.

N heres a couple of my resolutions for the new year:
1) A Sprinting Medal
2) To at least get into the Semis of Nat Canoe Champs
3) To pass all my modules without having to retake ANY
4) fitter, strongr, faster, more hardworking during trngs, improve, improve, improve
5) be able to bench 120kg(55-55) at year end, am currently 20kgs short
6) get driving license
7) hopefully start to earn my own pocket allowance dou im still nt quite sure how exactly
8) be a better saver
9) learn to go for cheaper nt so expensive clothes/products
10) NOT spend my wealth on oakleys and for the last one
11) Not back out for taking k1 for ubin again

12) i just wanna be happy, do anything to keep myself that way. and not constantly suppressed myself with anger, sadness and all tat bullshit includes family, love, friends, class

So i came back from training camp after a gruesome 72hrs
with body battered and bruise
with hands blistered and worn
with eyes burning red from the lack of sleep
yet....... im glad i did.
Each time we said we couldnt do 1 more pushups
we found ourselves doing a 100 more
yet no one gave up
despite the constant beating they threw at us
we completed the 3 days tgt, all of us.
If i had to re -gothru all that training and shit,
thr wouldnt be a better team ill put tgt den the sprinting team.
Cause u ppl make training, worthwhile.

you think of ways and reasons to cut ur training short
100 enough, 150 is enough, 200 is enough
you try ur best to get it over n done with quick
but turtle pace is the best ur body can do
you drench the floor and ur firm hands loses its grip
but slowly and surely u reach ur target
you stand right back up and feel the energy flowing back into ur body again
you desperately walk arnd the house for wind, n in the attempt to catch ur breathe
u look into the mirror
and see ur chest burning red, body, shiny from all that training
den u smile, knowing, u did 500 pushups today.
But next comes the weights.........

NCCs been over for over a week to 2 now.
We dint perform as well as we should have.
It was disappointing to say the least.
Putting aside the fact that i got into a bad heat,
pitting myself with the Nations best 250m rowers
was heartbreakingly demoralisingly.
Even if i did get into the semis if i was placed in another heat.
I doubt i could make it to the finals from there.
It has come to a pt where,
giving ur best is the basic neccisity.
Where you gotta give ur best, just to survive.

Optional rowing today made me realise.............
i suck.
That actually, im not good at all.
I remember reading Bels entry once

I totally comprehended that sentence today.

June 15th, Big words

They told me to take two events.
I told them im taking three.
The heats, the semis and the finals.

Big words coming from a race that i do not know the results of.
Ive no idea how its going to be and how its going to turn out.
But this time, im determined to give everything i have.

Training at macrichie today was good.
Feels different.
Cooling, relax, brings a totally different meaning to training compared to that HOT junk and dragonboat filled kallang. Water was different too. Feels good just slow paddling there. Although the cough did almost kill me during our 6km warm up.

I have no idea if its cause of the trngs or the pre competition jittery feeling but im feeling less and less confident each time i get on a boat and sprint these days. But when i dont get on a boat, it feels as thou my muscles are not working and it just feels weird(n u probly wouldnt understand this line if ure nt a rower urself, that weird feeling ur body feels whn u dun row in awhile) But i did find new hope today, bringing more light to this upcoming race provided NYJ agrees. But either way, i realise today i got lots to work on my strokes once competition ends. Still got much to learn. =)

To be totally honest, im kinda disappointed not chosen to row for K4, but thats all good in a sense ill be able to focus. I believe ill get my chance. I just gotta wait...

i hate it when theres bias-ness at home. I hate it when i dont have my own space. I hate having to give in. Afterall when u bcome an officer, ur words are bigger, ur hunger have more signifiance, the family listens to your demands, and basically the whole world revoles around you. Afterall, what does canoeing signify? You being late and doing hundreds of pumpings doesnt even match to him being late. And just cause training so hard and rowing with everything u have does not mean as much in their eyes. Pfft, parents. Den again perhaps im just being a grumpy bitch, perhaps i've been pampered too much when he wasnt around, now that he is, i feel neglected

Trainings been tough, stepping up with the runs n shit. More effort given into every training(even if none of u can feel it), although land training these days pratically means assiting jnrs and running with them. But ive been trying to train myself too, selftraining whenever im awake and have that potential energy to. Its been tiring but yet, if theres one thing i learned these holidays(or ever since PA), its, i Love Rowing. Its like training can be tough, i may sprint and lose, my competitors are catching up, and ill cap, but after every training, i still long the speed and yearn to get on the boat again. Rowing to me, has grown to be more than just a passion. Its a way of life. Besides the ugly tannlines(like who the fuck have a square lifevest tannline) and early training timings ( mustnotbelatefortrainingmustnotbelatefortrainingmustnotbelatefortraining...), Hell, i love rowing =)

Looking back, i rmb hw i first joined canoeing with nic n wx, which thy eventually quitted cause they dint liked canoeing like i did, but i got to bond with rom, jh, ken etc. Reminisin how Jh n me first got on a t2 was cause thr was only 1 t1 and 1 t2 left on the beach n thr was 2 of us. I rmb how in a matter of weeks into canoeing, i was already aiming to beat the snrs. I rmb how me n Jh competed in round ubin and almost striked gold in our first competition till fate got the better of us, but still we raced a NUS boat to the finish, despite ur injured arm, and my demoralised spirit. I rmb training hard each holiday with bel, rom,ken and the rest in sch although 50% of our time are spent talking instead of training. But still, we bonded as we trained. I rmbed hw i was at my peak n strongest till my wrist broke down and i could barely carry 5kg, and shrinked down by 4kg after it recoverd. So much so much......... Ha, looking back from whr we started, im really glad i retook canoeing as my cca and im glad, as a team, as a family, how far we've become. =) Hearts.

Noone letted me down today.
Not the girlfriend.
Not the team.

Im sick of ending each race and telling myself, FUCK, i could haf did so much better.
The aggresion and will to win was the key factor i lacked.
If i ever needed a mental coach as badly, its gonna be now.
It was my first time racing with NYP and SP, i dint know how good they were. So at least today is an eye opener.

K1 isnt an easy event, but i swore to stick by it.
I just gotta work hard from now on, no more slacking and complacency.
This is my motivation.

On a happier note,
The idol was great, and so was the rest of my team.
So grats =)
NCC.
The training begins.

In the meantime, im looking for a K2 partner. So... tryouts? Anyone? =)
